Upwards of half a billion pounds by the time they finish.

Too much. We have the highest personal debt in Europe, the government is seriously thinking about breaking its own rules on borrowing, we’ve just bailed out Northern Rock at £50 billion, we’re having to import more and more of our fuel and the Iraq war has cost billions for no benefit. The country is virtually bankrupt but as usual the government is more interested in our “world image” than the reality. The Olympics money would be better spent reducing the tax on fuel or rebuilding the railways or something.
