Personally i think we will embarrass ourselves it will be awful. Did you see Boris Johnson at the closing ceremony? what a scruff! hands in his pockets and everything. unbelievable. Also, London can’t be organized on an average day, its going to be a living hell when the Olympics come. What do you think?

I think they will be great. London is a great world city. From
a world history perspective, Englanders are a unique people,
who played a hand in how the world looks today. You guys
have much to offer for the rest of the world to see.
But the olympics are not just about a city or a country.
It’s more about the coming together of peoples from around the
globe competing in sporting events. New fresh faces, stars, heroes,
alongside those from prior olympics.
I’m sure London will do a wonderful job of hosting the next
olympics.
I think London will do okay. Looking back most important events we manage to complete on time and I’m sure the organisers wont let us down, especially as we already have most of the arenas already built. It wont be anything as impressive as it was in Beijing, but to be honest Great Britain doesn’t need to prove its self like China wanted to. This will be the 3rd time London has held the games.
Britain will hopefully have a successful olympics and hopefully wont need to go over the top. Remember the olympics is about the games and the main priority is to keep everyone safe but still manage to have a good time.
I dread to imagine. We’ve already admitted that we do not have the money to match the scale put up by Beijing. The Olympic Committee tried not to shock us of the money they wanted us instead of the government to cough up by getting their budget figures wrong. I can’t say their performance at the Closing Ceremony in Beijing was at all impressive. The millenium fireworks was disappointing. We have 8 years for preparation and organising to do. I just hope it will not be embarrassing with the world saying, “so that’s what England can manage to do !! “
be proud of boris…. the clear difference was they had their blazers buttoned up and boris didnt, atleast he is down to earth and is a normal person unlike those tossers in suits who think they are better than everyone else, i respect boris johnson for that reason i would much rather have him representing us than ken livingston.
and with 4 years left to prepare i dont think they will mess it up, they will already have it planned out and will know what needs to be done in what time scale, if you seriously think they are messing about and dont know what you are doing you are mistaken.
I’m sure teh London Olympics will be great – however, their budget is about a quarter of that spent in Beijing so cannot compete on that level. Have to agree with you on Boris Johnson! He looked a mess, hands in pocket – ok he is down to earth but in life there is a time and place to conform and that was it!
I was quite surprised that a cultural city with the status of London would choose to put an “Idol” winner up there. Beckham was fairly predictable though.
As a country with huge experience dealing with terrorism the security will no doubt be super tight.
If London copies China and builds most the venues within close proximity then transport wont be a problem for competitors.
Show wise? Let’s just pray they don’t role out Cilla Black! I would like to see something London is famous for. 2012 is your moment to shine London, dont mess it up.
There are many differences between London and Beijing:
1. London is the most cosmopolitan city in the world and diversity will be celebrated – that means people in wheelchairs and ‘ugly’ people will be seen!!!!
2. UK is a democracy – goverment has to justify their expenditiure to the tax payer – this is not the case in China – the goverment does what it wants!
3. The media will scrutinise the games from now until 2012. In china, no free media = no scrutiny.
4. We in the UK are free to think and raise our opinions freely. This includes negative points like yours. This would be unheard of in China.
I agree. It is going to be the same old gang of metropolitan lovies with their noses in the trough, and the best brains that the BBC and Fleet Street have to offer organising the ceremonies. The Chinese begin with Confucius. We begin with an X factor winner singing about sex to an ageing rocker with a grey pony tail, then in a moment of pure self parody, Beckham kicking a football into the crowd, and some kid walking over sme recumbent adults outside a bus after the passengers have thrown their papers on the floor. All that was lacking was someone throwing up on the bus and a racial stabbing! Yikes!!
Based on the 8 mins presentation,it won’t live up to the Beijing Olympics..beijing’s was just too amazing and memorable. I think it will still attract a lot of people, just not receiving as much attention as Beijing’s. And less unique though. But its still too early to say..who knows what’s London up to!
i don’t really mind whether we embarrass ourselves, London is a great city, and the olympics willl hopefully make it even better, by doing up the east end. and we should bringin some spors that we can win at outright, like darts or something.
and boris is a lad
I don’t know, but I hope London would surpass this beijing olympics. Well in my opinion best olympics ever. The millions they’ve spent is very WORTH IT! but I’m looking forward for london 2012 olympics..or yet? I still wish they make it great.
I don’t think it will be anything special, and it won’t make anything of London but it will be average.
Compared to Beijing nothing that great. My dad went to London on a business trip. Looked Pretty Meh from the pics he showed me.
I think they should aim to surpass Beijing so that they can make their best olympics. But that’s just my opinion.
The best in Olympic history.
lol yeh boris johnson was looking like a mess. i was like wtf… wen i saw him.
where they r going to be will suck but phelps wont.
