I am currently writing a script for a TV show. When I pitched the show concept to my friend Tay, and this is exactly how she described it:
“Wow! It’s got all the drama of 90210, all the realism of Skins and a little bit of Gossip Girl thrown in for good measure.”
Basically, it’s a show about 6 normal teens (2 boys + 4 girls) between the ages of 16 and 17 that go to a prestigious boarding school in North London.
The main characters would be:
–Lily : the cold-hearted genius, who bitterly resent’s her ex-boyfriend Lex (but is secretly in love with him)
–Cora : Lex’s twin sister – the loving artsy girl who is full of energy, but is concealing anxiety issues
–Britt : the rich, American dancer who is in love with herself, but is always having relationship problems
–Emm : the cute actress who is an emotional wreck because she secretly has no talent and paid her way into the school
–Lex : Cora’s twin brother – the adorable musician who is struggling to choose who he wants : his ex-girlfriend Izzie and his new interest JD
–Jasper : the sweet athlete who has a life-threatening illness that no-one knows about.
The story arcs would deal with typical teenage problems, including alcohol, drugs, sex (and a possible pregnancy), love, lies etc.
Do you think it would be successful? Would you watch it?
(My friend Tay’s uncle is a producer, who said he would “consider” it depending on whether or not it was good)

I actually like how you create your characters, I would definitely watch the show. I like how there is something deep about the characters, but its not like stupid stuff. I think how successful you will be will depend on how good your scripts are. Good luck, I hope you do really good!!!

I try and test out every show at least once.
If first 4 episodes suck, I might not continue watching it.

To typical………..Change it around for once.focus it on the lives of working class teenagers who go to a state run school and lack even the most basic chances to advance. and the problems they face in their lives, their hopes and aspirations. Take up a more dynamic issues like divorced parents, racism, poverty, ethnicity and real life issues. Rather than stories of snobs who have complicated love lives and are ignorant of the truth on the streets.

    Personally, no.
I really dislike shows like GG and 90210. All I get when I watch those shows are lives I’m never going to live and solutions to problems I can never carry out.
I’d rather watch something that I can relate to. I don’t want to watch a show about a bunch of beautiful rich kids who go to a fancy school and do elitist things. I’m not saying your script will be like that, but just saying.
Everyone on those shows are tall, skinny and beautiful and everything is glamourized. I really hate it. I usually just end up feeling like crap after watching those kinds of shows because they’re not real, and if that’s what being fun and exciting is, then I’m like, nothing.
