Even if London did have a great ceremony, it wouldn’t be that great because the world knows that London plays an important role in the world and London is one of the most expensive cities in the world. Since so many people and media discouraged the Beijing Olympics, the Beijing Olympics backfired by showing a spectacular opening ceremony which would not be forgotten for a long time. Beijing Olympics was so amazing because so many people protested against the Beijing Olympics and look at what just happened on 8/8/08.
no they don’t.
they just don’t have enough material to blow us away.
they lack in the cultural aspect (no offense) just because unlike china, they do not have 56 ethnic cultures and in a way, all their costumes look the same.
they do not have the oriental feel that was so amazing to foreigners.
they don’t have the 4 great inventions they can concentrate on.
everything they have in the world is not unknown to others.
they may have the intellectual/financial capability, but they do not have the extensive culture that will allow them to do that.
so maybe if they want to outdo us, they will outdo us with their technology.
I’m personally very excited about the London Olympics. The development of the whole area has already created thousands of jobs which is important today, and considering how rich in culture and history London, and in England, is, the opening ceremony should be fantastic. Also, on a side-note, London is a more stable political environment than Beijing so it will not be as controversial an event.
