Nobody will beat that spectacle because China probably spent more than most third-world countries net in income every year. From all the photos showing them practicing all the routines – and even the entire fireworks shows! – they probably spent at least three times what they should have. And then! the extra expenses of moving everyone and their vehicles out of town and cleaning up that horrible algae growth in the ocean where they are supposed to do the boat races!! Ugh!
Britain should take it to a different level, but not a higher level. If they create something more to their style – like sophisticated and classy, it would be refreshing; and put a stop to this one-upmanship that seems to be going on with the opening ceremonies and building all the one-time-use outrageous facilities.

I don’t see the point in the UK wasting money on the Olympics. The UK is an established nation with no need to showcase itself to the world, also with limited space in Central London, it’s a complete and utter waste of money and is merely going to send our taxes soaring. The Olympics is for developing nations to show what they can do, not established, rich nations – there’s no sense in it.
