Will The Fun Of The London 2012 Olympics Be Worth The Billions Of Taxpayers Money Spent On It?

Yes. It is a chance to show the world that this country is still great and that we can stage world-class events as well as any nation.
Or alternatively, we could moan that it’s too expensive, and how I don’t like my tax being spent on it when I don’t personally benefit – and how pathetic does that make our nation look?

    You mean LONDONERS tax………..
Livingston treats us londoners as an extention of his wallet the commie dick-face.
He’ll promise the world…….. and get us to pay for it !!

No, it’s also disgraceful lottery prizes are so small because of the amount of money that goes to the Government. Also, all profits from the Dream Number game go to fund the Olympics. We should take care of our own and the elderly before money is wasted on crap like the Olympics.

Not to Londoner’s who are paying for it.

    No !
In fact we only got the Olympics through FRAUD ( either intentional or accidental ) viz. by misleading the Olympic Comittee about the actual cost ( cost being one of the factors taken into consideration ).
Given the cost over-run before the project even started ( and that as evidence ) one can only conclude that the members of the UK bid are either cheats or stupid or both but not neither.
Of course – if my logic is flawed – I withdraw without qualification – my comments above.

unless they intrduce female mud wrestling, or topless tiddly winks as sports im not interested anyway, it will just be more conjestion attempting to get to work whilst its on

No fun for Londoners, who will be overrun by even more foreigners than usual. No fun for ordinary tourists, who will find it hard to get accommodation.
Certain people will cash in and make money, but….fun? Has anyone ever heard old people reminiscing about what fun it was in 1948, the last time round?
The inhabitants of New South Wales are still grinding their teeth over the cost of the Sydney Olympic Games. London can’t afford this particular luxury.

  7. Doethine says:

The Olympics is a complete drug induced farce.
Rich Athletes parading around, who spit their dummy out when they are beaten by an athlete from a third world country.

wait and see.. what the legacy will bring..
or if it will be another white elephant like the dome was for years.
thankfully 02 took it over.. but I think Londoners should have got at least one free ticket for the shows.. after all it was taxpayers who paid for it to be built, and paid for it’s upkeep when it was laying empty..
although I doubt I’ll be in London in 2012 , as the prices will have forced me out long ago..
pretty sad considering I grew up / was born in London..
they let everyone in from abroad, and give em free flats and don’t look after their own..
    thanks a bunch *sigh*

    Waste of resources and money!
It will make money for the few well positioned but I doubt that UK residents will feel the benefits.

  10. Duirmuid says:

Just an excuse for New Labour to show off at our expense.
Easy passage for an 100 000 immigrants to sneak in.
All the fun will be sucked out of it since it will be more of a stage for political correctness than it will be for sports.
If youre British and working you wont get a ticket anyway.
I’m not necessarily opposed to the idea if our country was in a better position to host it.However, the truth is we cant afford another white elephant after the millenium dome.

  11. Private says:

About as worth it as the Dome was. Nothing will be built on time, it will probably leak or fall apart and it will certainly cost at least five times what they tell us.
To cap it all we probably won’t win any gold medals anyway.

  12. hillary says:

no, i don’t see the fun in millionaire tennis players and football players competing for their countries at our expense. or in british and american drug cheating athletes “competing” at our expense. the whole thing is a disgrace and we should never have funded it.

  13. troll-la says:

The congestion charge during this period will get some of that money back. Also, London and other cities hosting events will make millions in merchandise and ticket sales.
Plus, the country gets a few more stadiums and training grounds for the youth in the future.

  14. Obtuse Triangle Fan says:

No definitely not,The amount of money to be spent on this ludicrous scheme is obscene ,there are people in the UK who are losing their homes because of financial problems, probably not of their making, And here we are talking about billions of pounds spent to fund this event, absolute nonsense

  15. news hound says:

    Yes
And the billions it will earn for the UK

  16. Dafydd says:

    You mean English Taxpayers.

  17. Angel says:

Yes. worth every penny, u bet.
