2009 celebrates the International Year of Astronomy, 40 years since the Moon Landings and 200 years since the death of the great composer Haydn.
To mark these significant events, the BBC has commissioned Salford-based composer Alan Edward Williams to write Wonder, a 21st century vocal work that reflects our present understanding and scientific knowledge of the creation theory.
The Maxwell Hall will be transformed into a cosmic garden by theatre designer David Millard and the performances will feature unique film footage and rarely seen images of deep space from the Lovell telescope at Jodrell Bank, NASA and the BBC Archives.
