I don’t think they should have been awarded the 2012 Olympics, since London already has hosted twice before (1908 and 1948). Many “experts” thought for sure it was going to be awarded to Paris, who has also hosted twice previously (1900 and 1924). A new city should be chosen every time.

The Olympics in London are a way of fleecing the rest of the country, but predominantly England so that there can be significant expenditure on infrastructure. The clue is in the so called regeneration legacy…. Like the Dome its all about London getting its grubby mitts on most of the significant bits of infrastructure spending over the next 4..5 years. Its alredy snaffled a large amount on the waaste that os the relocation of Eurostar trains, the new high speed line and the move to St Pancreas (that last littel gem cost a mere 600m
Sadly because the government lied the costs have escalated from the oriignal unfeasably low 2..3bn, and are already over 9.5bn, with an expected 3..5 bn still to magically arrive before the opening in 2012. The government and its advisers knew perfectly well that the Olympic couldn’t be delivered for the 2..3bn originally predicted
So yes London does deserve the Olympics, but the rest of the country, and the rest of England doesn’t deserve to pay for it…. Like the dome its a London project it should eb funded by London and those nearby. The excuse of the Olympics shouldn’t be used to pilfer lottery funds, the Olympics shouldn’t be a an excuse to deny projects elsewhere
Yes as they have put money into athletes in both Olympic and Paralympic glad the U.S.A don’t have the games.

It’s not a matter of London deserving the games but more a matter of do the the South East of England taxpayers deserve to be forced to pay for it.
NO,the only winners out of this are the local muslims who’ll get the countries biggest mosque,everything else gets down graded or bull dozed down!The whole point of gaining the Olympics is to leave top class sporting venues for everyone to use and hopefully allow some people the chance to get to future olympic games.I think our politicians have surely gained a few quid too out of it

Hell yeah, it’l help london in the long term with the regenaration and it will be awesome motivation for young athletes
