first of all. i agree with jass
secondly. im getting very upset by people suggesting that we cant compete with the chinese opening ceremony.
    why the negativism?
we will put on a good show. we wont fake anything. we wont hurt anyone to prove we are best. our yachting venue, weymouth in dorset is beautiful. its clean and its safe. there will be no scum or algae. and the olympic village is a cruise liner based at portland. there can be no finer place for the competitors. come on folks. have faith in our country. we can produce the best ever olympics.without lies and fakes and ill treatment of the residents of this country. we are humane and caring. and we are the best
edit fanoula frog. you are a patronising reptile

I agree, a lot of it was enhanced but not all of it.
The Typing Blocks of Chinese Letters, amazing. It was the fireworks outside the Birds Nest that were Computer Generated, for TV.
The commentators who were actually there, seemed to think it was pretty awesome.
Anyway. London Olympics should be banned. It’s going to cost us a fortune and inflation is today at 4.4%.
Surely we have bigger priorities in this Country?
Edit to Pin Ball – it’s Negativity dear. Negativism is not a word. lol.

All governments lie. China, Britain, and here in America. On NBC, which broadcast the games here, we were told that the footprints were a bit of fancy cinematography.
What surprised me was everyone saying the ceremony can’t be topped (as was said after Athens, Atlanta, Seoul, etc). Technologies improve, people have bigger and better ideas, and so on.
Fear not – London’s ceremony will have the same amount of praise if not more, and ditto on the ridicule.

i didnt watch it, as i’m boycotting the olympics due to the represion of Tibetans, the oppression of free speech, no free press etc etc….
so if we just light a match as our opening ceremony it will be a whole lot better, just because china never deserved to have the games in the 1st place, and we’d have saved a whole lot of money for other things, such as badly needed sports facilities outside of london.

lol i DOUBT if the UK could even put together a mime act. They cant even get a bus to run on time. Look at the fiasco at Millenium!!!
Ttruth of the matter is England has had its day.
In Spain they have fiestas that run for dayrtys in he streets.
In Germany the have Beer festivals
    In Rio they have Carnivals
In ENGALND they have pancake races on one day in Feb !!!!

I know – and imagine saying a seven-year-old girl isn’t pretty enough! Poor kid! It is awful the way that country still has peasants and people are starving, yet they spend billions on this silly game! Same with Britain though, we are meant to be one of the richest countries but we can’t afford it either. It should have just stayed in Athens.

Why can’t we all just get along? I think that the London Opening ceremony will be just as good if not better in it’s own way. There is no need to compare the two. It is possible to have several greats! I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Maybe if you realised that their is no need to have an opening ceremony. It is political propaganda and serves the government by giving them prestige. It’s expensive and the Olympics is not a variety show.

London Olympic will not even get close to Beijing’s Game by 50%, just try to be honest to yourself. Has anyone ever complained about those fake “MEN” and fake “WOMEN” walking on London street. The world itself is a fake.

The whole opening ceremony is a farce. Barcelona, 1992, arrow missed so they flicked a switch to light the flame.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vyLmkOes…

Only the footprints were faked. The singer was miming which isn’t unusual either.
As for London’s it’ll be brilliant, 2 blokes waving 2 Woodbines about and some sparklers left over from Bonfire Night.

    Oh, so what?
I can’t bear the idea of billions of pounds spent by the host countries just to show off.
I’m sorry for the Chinese peasants who are starving while their “masters” fling money at stupid firework displays.

Who honestly cares? I imagine the majority of Britons would rather the money be spent on the NHS or education rather than some stupid celebration that will be forgotten as soon as it has begun.

I predict London’s fake stuff will be nowhere near as good as China’s fake stuff.

Paul do you ever have a good thing to say about anyone or anything.? The little girl who mimed her anthem still did a great job. Don’t pop stars often do the same ? As for the footprints even the Chinese can’t do the impossible so they used a technique often used in advertising and films Do you moan about them also. What have the NHS to do with China. ? By the way 90% of the fireworks were real. Seeing as they invented them on the first place why fake them ? Please give at least a little credit where its due.
