So i was watching the olympics yesterday and they had women’s biathlon on. It featured them skiing and then shooting then skiing. Could somebody explain how this sport is supposed to be played and the rules.

They cross country ski around a course and every lap they target shoot, the winner is the one who shoots most accurately and skiis the fastest. I’m pretty sure there are time penalties for missed shots

  2. James says:

Yesterday was the women’s sprint. In these events there are two rounds of shooting, one prone and one standing. The competitor loads a magazine with five rounds to shoot the five targets. If a target is missed, he/she can manually load shoot up to three rounds. For each target left after all eight shots are spent the biathlete must ski a 150 m penalty lap. The competitor with the lowest time wins.

In longer races there are four rounds of shooting and time penalties, rather than penalty laps are imposed for missed targets.

  3. The Heckler says:

This event combines cross country skiing and shooting a rifle. And it will give Kevin Costner the idea for a $700 million budget movie called “Snow World”.

That the skiing-and-shooting combination of biathlon was originally inspired by a hugely successful string of liquor store robberies in Sweden
