Nominated for a Manchester Evening News Theatre Award
An outrageous homage to musical icon Doris Day, featuring a selection of the diva of the duster’s greatest hits like you’ve never heard them before. Desperate to be Doris tells the story of Dean, who works as a Buyer for a Mail Order nightwear firm called The Pyjama Game. At home he is a legend in his own living room and sings like Doris Day but will he dare to share his Calamity Jane with an unsuspecting world? When his local operatic society Out of My Range, decides to stage the hit musical, Dean is suddenly thrown in the limelight.
For this musical extravaganza Lip Service duo Maggie Fox and Sue Ryding have enlisted the services of Darren Southworth, fresh from the West End hit Spamalot, who will become Doris for the Day!
Plus, as all good musicals traditionally need casts of thousands, our leading ladies will be backed by a flamboyant Oldham community chorus specially recruited for this production and directed by our very own Peter Wakefield.
