Welsh Guards are to be the Guard of Honour for the returning of members of the Royal Family to Buckingham Palace from Westminster Abbey, and will line the route during the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton on Friday 29 April 2011.

When William and Catherine return to Buckingham Palace as a married couple they will be greeted by a salute from the Welsh Guards, which will be the National Anthem.

Speaking to the Times Newspapers, Musical Director of the Guards, Major Barnwell commented:  “As a musician performing at state occasions, you feel and respond to the atmosphere.  On the day of the wedding we will march from here, Wellington Barracks, proudly and triumphantly into the forecourt of Buckingham Palace.  We can orchestrate the atmosphere as we play to the crowd.  We will play a selection of music that I will choose and which, will be approved and which, will be appropriate for the occasion, the regiment and the throng outside the railings, looking through.”
