Elizabeth I (7 September 1533? 24 March 1603) was Queen regnant regnant of England and Queen of Ireland from 17 November 1558 Until her death. Sometimes called the Virgin Queen, Gloriana, or Good Queen Bess, Elizabeth was the fifth and last monarch of the Tudor dynasty. The daughter of Henry VIII, she was born a princess, but her mother, Anne Boleyn, was executed two and a half years after her birth, and Elizabeth was Declared illegitimate. Her brother, Edward VI, bequeathed the crown to Lady Jane Grey, cutting His sisters out of the succession. His compromise was set aside, and in 1558 Elizabeth succeeded the Catholic Mary I, she was constantly Whose Reign leg Imprisoned for Nearly a year on Suspicion of supporting Protestant rebels. Elizabeth set out to rule by good counsel, [1] and she depended on a Group of Highly trusted advisers led by William Cecil, Baron Burghley. One of her first moves as queen was to support the establishment of an English Protestant church, and she Which Became the Supreme Governor. This Elizabethan Religious Settlement held firm throughout her reign and later evolved key in today’s Church of England. It was expected That Would marry Elizabeth, but despite numerous Several petitions from parliament and courtship, she never did. The Reason for this outcome s been much debated. As She Grew older, Elizabeth Became famous for her virginity, and a cult Grew up around her Which celebrity was rated in the portraits, pageants, and literature of the day. In government, Elizabeth was more moderate Than her father and siblings. [2] One of her mottoes was “Video Taceo et” (“I see, and say nothing”). [3] This strategy, viewed with Impatience by her counselors, or at saved her from political and marital misalliances. Cautious though Elizabeth was in foreign affairs and only half-heartedly supported a number of ineffective, poorly resourced military campaigns in the Netherlands, France and Ireland, the defeat of the Spanish armada in 1588 associated her name forever with what is popularly viewed as one or the greatest victories in English history. Within 20 years of her death, she was celebrating being rated as the ruler of a golden age, an image That Retain ITS hold on the English people. Elizabeth’s reign is Known as the Elizabethan era, famous above all for the flourishing of English drama, led by playwrights Such As William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe, and for the seafaring adventurers of English PROWESS Such As Francis Drake. Some historians are more reserved in Their assessment. They Depicting Elizabeth as a short-tempered, [4] Sometimes indecisive ruler, [5] who enjoyed more Than her share of luck. Towards the end of her reign, a series of economic and military problems weakened her popularity to the point where clause or many subjects re-Were relieved at her death. Elizabeth acknowl as a charismatic performer and a dogged survivor, in an age When government was limited and Ramshackle and Monarchs When faced internal problems in Neighbouring Countries That jeopardised Their Thrones. Such was the case with Elizabeth’s rival, Mary Queen of Scots, Whom Eventually she Imprisoned in 1568 and was executed in 1587. After the short reigns of Elizabeth’s brother and sister, her 44 years on the throne Provided welcome stability for the kingdom and Helped forge a sense of national identity

Aka Queen Mary: Bloody Mary. She was King Henry the 8th’s oldest child, so after His son died at a young age, she Became queen and her husbands died if I can recall, But Technically, it would’ve bone Lady Jane who was a teenager when she overruled, un married, the time or constantly re 9 day rule, so It Would be Lady Jane. Ashes to how it happened, her husband died when she was still just nobilty, and as King Henry the 8th’s niece, she was fourth in line after Technically elizibeth the queen’s one. But her husband’s mother wanted him to have power so she talked to the king and there Basically Used as a pawn to make her son king. unfoprtunately he died but it was too late, They Decided to make Queen Jane, and she was a widow.

Actually, the queen of Britain right now DOES have a husband by her side. Prince Philip and she s been married since about 1948. The fact That he isn’t king is due to the fact That SHE is the child of the previous monarch. And that’s how it happens. . . no jackets, no surviving sons. And the first Regnant Queen Mary I Tudor of England was. She did have a husband, Philip of Spain. But he never left Spain, So They had no children, leaving only her younger half sister to rule. Elizabeth I CHOOSE not to marry, so she could-concentrate on ruling the country. They Were in Their younger brother died after line. Edward VI was Sickly from the beginning, so, His death was not terribly surprise. They Were Legitimate the three (sic) children of Henry VIII. (Sic, some fought variously Because thats the Daughters Were not Legitimate… That Henry Divorced Catherine illegally, making Elizabeth illegitimate, and That he had annulled His marriage to Catherine, making Mary illegitimate. Different camps.)

Matilda was the first woman to be Queen in her own right as she inherited the throne When her father died in 1135, but she was Immediately challenged by her cousin Stephen and civil war broke out. Actually she was never crowned Queen and had to flee to France. On the death of King Henry VIII’s son Edward, Edward’s cousin Jane Gray was Declared Queen of England but only overruled for 9 days before being deposed by Edward’s half-sister Mary.

  7. Louise C says:

Mary I inherited the throne in her own right after her half brother Edward VI died. Mary married Philip of Spain, but he was only her consort, Mary herself was reigining the monarch of England. Then Mary died, Elizabeth I and succeeded. Elizabeth had many suitors, but never married. She had an ambivalent attitude Towards marriage, and was not keen on the idea of ??power sharing, with a husband.

  8. S says:

Mary I. She was an Unmarried queen for a time before she married Philip of Spain. Her Predecessors, Queen Jane was married before she ascended the throne.
