Travel expert Simon Clader told the BBC that Heathrow will never be able to cope with snow or any other minor disrution whilst it operates at 99% capacity. What is the answer? Mixed mode operation (at least during problems)? Another runway? Surely not a new airport in the Thames Estuary? Stansted is only 61% full. Could we not force Heathrow’s freight only flights (it is the UK’s biggest freight airport too) to go to Stansted?
