Why do the royals have a name of a place after Their titles? Like Princess Diana of Wales or Duke of Edinburgh. . . ?

So why do the royals have the names of places after Their title? Another example would be Catherine Duchess of Cambridge or Duke William of Cambridge. I do not get it! Are these people here from there?
